Words & music
Choral music comes alive through the powerful fusion of the universal language of music and the passionate words of great writers. Words & Music presents a kaleidoscopic evening of music that celebrates the great American traditions of civil liberty and freedom of expression. The program includes heartfelt music by Robert Seeley, Gwyneth Walker, and a reprise performance of Michael’s Letter to Mama, an inspiring song about coming out based on Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City. The BGMC will also sing three songs by pop singer/songwriter George Michael including Faith and Freedom 90.
The centerpiece of the concert will be the world premiere of A Whitman Oratorio for chorus and chamber orchestra by Lowell Liebermann. This vibrant and colorful work adapts a wide range of gay poet Walt Whitman’s writings in a modern context, using Whitman’s prophetic words to comment on the current state of American democracy. One of today’s most acclaimed young composers, Liebermann has been called by Time magazine, “a composer unafraid of grand gestures and open-hearted lyricism...and, yes, you can hum the tunes."unafraid of grand gestures and open-hearted lyricism...and, yes, you can hum the tunes."

Pride Concert
Extrabbaganza!
The Boston Gay Men’s Chorus sings the ultimate tribute show to ABBA, the top selling musical act of the 70s. With over 370 million albums sold worldwide, ABBA’s hits embody the decade with some of the catchiest pop tunes ever written including Fernando, Take A Chance on Me, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Voulez Vous, Thank You for the Music and many more! Their irresistible music is both a time machine back to the glitter and glam of the 70s and a jukebox bursting with today’s retro-chic classics. And only a gay chorus can unlock the secrets of some of ABBA’s greatest hits: Does Your Mother Know, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), and of course, Dancing Queen. This high-energy evening will be the perfect soundtrack for celebrating Boston Pride weekend. We dare you not to sing along and dance in your seats!
